I have a new name it is The Rt. Hon. The Lord Baron Taylor of Warwick of Warwickshire. ........ A Lord is like a Senator. The upper house is the House of Lord and the lower house is called the House of Commons. There are several types of Lords: Marquise, Viscount, Earl & Baron. I’m a Baron."
"To take you back to the beginning.
My Earthly Father was a pro Cricketer. Cricket is like baseball, but boring! OK? He played for the Warwickshire Bears and they won the UK equivalent of the super bowl in the 1950s. So he was very famous, the championship winning team. My father was a fantastic family man: Everywhere he went he started a new family. I have at least 4 half brothers all by different mothers.
....So when I was born my father decided he didn’t want me so he put me up for adoption. My mother had other ideas because she had a Christian Faith. She fought the adoption process and won. My father kicked her out.
We walked the streets looking for a place to stay and In the windows of apartments she saw these signs: "No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs." That was legal in 1952. She was desperate, not for herself, but for me. She prayed a prayer and said, "God I have two things in this world: My faith in you and my baby John. One Day, God I want him to be a leader among men and women in this country." Now that was a crazy prayer. A Single black woman with a baby, no husband and no home, but she had faith – She had faith and she had a vision - me.
Well, she didn’t find any place to live I’m afraid. Britain in 1952 was a very racist country. So she went back to my father as his housekeeper, not as his wife. Can you imagine that – so demeaning. I grew up with that knowledge that this man that was famous and in the newspapers was my father, but I was not allowed to address him as "father" and this was very painful. ......
Then one day I decided I don’t need to go to church. So I told my mom, "I have a word from God. I think God is telling me this Sunday I don’t need to go to Church, but should watch the big Football game on TV." She said," We live opposite the church so get yourself over there." I said, "You’re picking on me because I’m black." She replied, "John you may or may not have noticed that I am also black. Now get yourself over there."
